Wrestling and Rambling

Warning: Some spoilers ahead.

Tonight was undeniably one of the funnest nights of my life. Which is saying something since I have definitely had me some nights. We won't talk that about here because I believe that just might count as evidence.

This evening I had the pleasure of attending Future Stars of Wrestling's event When Stars Collide at Sam's Town Live in Las Vegas. The entire show was stacked from the bottom all the way to the top. There wasn't a single match that wasn't enjoyable. If you missed out, you should really go to a corner and think about what you did. Maybe ring that SHAME bell, you know you deserve it.

Having attended several FSW events at this point, I knew that I was not going to be disappointed. However, combining daylight savings with an opening shift at work and having to immediately leave for the show after coming home and changing clothes, I feared there might be the potential for me to not enjoy myself to the fullest because I was so damn tired. Yes kiddies, adulting is so fucking hard sometimes that you are literally too tired to have fun.

I should have known better.

There was no time to be tired. I spent half the show or better on my feet, screaming like a Tweenager at a Bieber concert (gag), applauding to the point that I fooled my FitBit into thinking I walked way more steps today than I actually did. As every wrestling fan knows, it's only cheating if you get caught, so hush.

There was no wrong choice when it came to who you were rooting for in Douglas James vs. Suede Thompson vs. Jakob Austin Young. All three are insanely talented and if you call yourself a wrestling fan, you absolutely need to see them all in action. While J.A.Y. is the (only) hipster near and dear to my heart, I am very excited to see Suede have his shot at the No Limits Championship.

There will never be a child as excited to go to Disney Land as I was to see Jack Manley and Remy Marcel as the Whirlwind Gentlemen again. I'm talking stupid excited, giggling like a maniac, and probably looking like I needed to be committed for my own safety. I do love me some 86ers, but there's always going to be a big Fro shaped place in my heart for the Gentlemen.

I have never been so simultaneously terrified and aroused that I was going to die crushed to death beneath very large men as I was during the Sami Callihan/Brian Cage/Keith Lee match, which for me was easily the match of the night (to take nothing away from the rest, because they were ALL amazing). If you haven't seen your life flash before your eyes as a 300 pound man comes flying at you, you haven't truly lived.

I can't lie guys; I like Reno Scum. A lot. I know I'm not supposed to. I know those two words "Reno" and "Scum" are supposed to make my black little heart boil my Las Vegas blood, but I just can't help it. David Luster and Adam Thornstowe have such amazing chemistry as a team. I finally got to see that surfboard/curb stomp combo (no I haven't seen them on Impact yet, and I've already judged myself for it).I'm excited for what they will do in Impact and hope I get to continue to see them in FSW, because they are consistently one of the highlights of the night.

A huge, huge congratulations to Kevin Kross. The build up to his match with John Morrison over the last few weeks on Twitter brought me way too many laughs. I admit, I actually snorted once. It wasn't attractive. The tension in Sam's Town was palpable as he spoke after the match and you could feel just how much all of the FSW fans, myself included, adore him and the hard work he puts in. We were all crossing our fingers and hoping that we wouldn't be devastated with the news that he was leaving us, and thankfully we didn't have to take that blow. I am so happy that he is going to be able to reach all new fans working with Lucha Underground.

If there is one thing that you can take away from this show aside from the action in the ring, it is the passion. Every last one of the guys in FSW is passionate about what they do, and you can see when you talk to them at the merch table as much as you can see it when they are in the ring. There is never a sense that they aren't having the time of their lives. That vibe pulls in the audience in a way that I don't think I can accurately describe except to say that I was literally on the edge of my seat.

Joey DeFalco and the guys put together the absolute best wrestling show that I have been to so far from any company. The wrestlers, both FSW and guests, raised the bar to a level that people with little t-rex arms like myself could never hope to reach. The best part is knowing that they aren't done showing us what they can do. They are all stars in every sense of the word and it was really an honor to get to witness it tonight.

Thank you, all of you, and congratulations on an amazing show. Now I need to unwind with some moonshine that was most certainly not provided to me by any Players. ;) If any of this hasn't made sense, blame the moonshine.
